AAMU Drake LRC App: Get to Know Our App

A comprehensive guide to the library's mobile app.

Search

The search bar allows users to explore the library's catalog with multiple search options, similar to those available on the LRC website. Users can search by title, author, subject headings, ISBN, or series name. Searches can be refined to display only e-books or physical books and can be further limited to specific library collections.

Each book listing includes basic information and its location within the LRC. Selecting the author's name will display other works by that author. To ensure availability, users can place holds on desired items, preventing others from checking them out. Full details of the hold process will be provided on a separate page.

The three horizontal lines on the right side of the search bar open the My Account menu, where users can manage their library activity.

Scan ISBN Barcode

When this option is selected, the camera will activate, and a green square—similar to the one shown above—will appear on the screen. Position the book so that the red line within the square aligns with the barcode.

If you prefer not to use the camera, the ISBN is typically located directly above or below the barcode and can be manually entered into the search bar. Please note that different printings and editions of the same book may have different barcodes and ISBNs, so if you're unable to locate the item using the scanner, try searching manually using the search bar.

Hours & Location

On the app, tapping this menu icon (three horizontal lines) reveals additional real-time information:

  • Whether the LRC is currently open
  • The user’s distance from the building

Selecting this option opens a detailed menu that includes:

  • Operating hours for the current week
  • The LRC’s address and contact information
  • A link to the LRC website, which offers features such as room reservations and other services not available in the app
  • An option to get directions using your mobile device’s default Maps app

My Account

The My Account menu—accessible via the three horizontal lines on the right side of the search bar—can also be opened using the menu icon elsewhere in the app. Both options lead to the same submenu.

Account Features:

Users can:

  • View and manage holds, checked-out books, fines, and checkout history
  • Change the app’s language
  • Switch between multiple LRC accounts on the same device
  • Keep receipts of Self Check-Outs
  • Sign out of their LRC accounts

Preferences:

The Preferences option allows users to:

  • Rearrange the Main Menu by changing the order of menu items
  • Switch between the default two-page “Flow” layout and a single-page “Scroll” layout

eBooks and eAudio

This feature functions similarly to the standard search bar located at the top of the Main Menu but prioritizes digital resources that can be viewed or downloaded online, when available. To access certain materials, you may be required to log in using your AAMU credentials and/or Library account information.

Self Check-out

The shopping cart icon in the menu represents the Self-Check-Out button. This option is also available at the bottom of the Main Menu, to the right of the My Barcode button.

With this feature, patrons in the LRC can check out books independently—without needing to visit Course Reserves or the Circulation Desk.

How It Works:

  • The process is similar to the Scan ISBN Barcode feature.
  • When selected, the camera activates, displaying a green square with a red line overlay.
  • Align the red line with the barcode to scan the item.

Note: Unlike commercially sold books, library barcodes are located on the inside of the book, typically on the last page.

My Barcode

This barcode option is located at the bottom of the Main Menu. The two dots above it indicate which page of the Main Menu is currently displayed. The barcode contains the user's A-number (A#), which matches the one found on their AAMU ID card. It can also serve as a substitute for the physical ID during the checkout process.

Social

Provides links to the LRC's social media pages. In the default Main Menu layout, it marks the beginning of the second page, which can be accessed by swiping left from the first page.

E-Resources

Provides access to the LRC's collection of e-resources, including Films on Demand. Please note that additional login credentials may be required to access some content.
