Website Sources

Search engines allow you to find and retrieve websites across the internet.  Google and Yahoo are two of the most common search engines, but there are others which may help you in your academic research.  A few sample search engines are listed below.

Google Scholar - Electronic journals and other academic content. Much of this material is available only to subscribing institutions.

OAIsterOAIster is a union catalog of millions of records representing open access resources. OAIster includes academic resources, both text and audiovisual.

Google Books - Search millions of books online and view previews of their content. Some full-text books are available.

USA.GOV - As the U.S. government's official web portal, USA.gov makes it easy for the public to get U.S. government information and services on the web.

Finding Websites

Good information can be found on the internet!

Look for the following endings in a website address:

.gov - It is all government (city, county, state, federal). 100% trustworthy.

.edu - It is an educational institution (Look at the institution). The information is 95% trustworthy.

.org - Non-profit or Not-for-profit organization. Be critical of the website, it is easy to have a .org status. (Wikipedia is a .org).

For ALL websites ask:

WHO is publishing

WHAT are they publishing

CAN it be verified elsewhere

WHEN was it last updated
