Individual Session

Small Group Session

You can schedule a small group session with a reference librarian.  These sessions assist small groups of students develop their research strategies.

In a personal research appointment a reference librarian can help you:

  • Develop a research plan;
  • Refine and clarify research topics;
  • Locate and retrieve relevant resources including books, journals, visual media, etc.; and
  • Develop scholarly evaluation skills.

Counseling Services

Our goal is to you help you achieve your academic goals and have a positive collegiate experience through services that meet your intellectual, emotional, cultural, and social needs. Our staff of three License Professional Counselors under the State of Alabama are able to provide services to address your mental health concerns. 

Services

We offer brief individual counseling sessions to students of Alabama A&M University. Sessions typically range from 45-50 minutes with one of our licensed therapist to provide you with the opportunity to explore your concerns in a confidential environment. Some of these concerns may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Adjustment to the University
  • Coping with a traumatic incident
  • Alcohol and/or Drug abuse
  • Emotional Difficulties
  • Relationship conflicts/issues
  • Anxiety and Stress Management
  • Isolation and loneliness
  • Grief and/or Loss
  • Issues related lack of confidence and feelings of low self-esteem
  • Sexual assault
  • Phobias
  • Family problems
  • Significant changes in mood/Depression
  • Gender Identity Concerns

Students who present with a chronic history of instability and/or indices of intensive case and crisis management needs may not be served adequate at the HCS under current circumstance. For these students, we will be glad to assist you referral to community resources for intensive and comprehensive services. 

Appointment & Payment

If you feel ready to speak to a therapist, call of main office number (256) 372-5601 to schedule an appointment with a therapist. You can also walk in to your Health Center to schedule an appointment with a therapist. There is no out of pocket fees for obtaining our services. Services are paid through your Student Health Insurance Coverage via Consolidated Health Plans.
